When Kendo (Way of the Sword) was a Brutal Spirited Fight

At the Haga Dojo inside the Tokyo Budokan, Kendo practice is undertaken as it would have been one hundred years ago. This is the pre-war Kendo that employed jujutsu technique and throws that have more in common with Judo. It is Kendo not as the sport you see in competitions around the World, but as deadly combat, where a Samurai would continue the fight even without a sword. At the Haga school, unbalancing and throwing one’s opponent is combined with sword technique, in the case of Kendo, the sword is a bamboo shinai. Visit to see more full length feature movies.
