The Kalbeliya community has nomade origins and they were known from ancients times as snake charmers. The capable men were able to seek and hunt the snakes in order to extract the poison inside the animals without killing them. During these days they still train snakes and shows and performances are very common through the Indian streets. Expert musician of Poongi (wind instrument used to enchant snakes) are well known as storyteller. Their joyful songs talk about people everyday women of these communities are
also very good at singing and dancing.
In the past, women danced only during religious festivities or in social occasions, such as wedding. Dancing is the main part of every cultural celebration and it helps women to express their incredible artistic talent.
