Cobalt Hell - RT Documentary

’Cobalt Hell’ is a documentary that takes the viewer deep into the mine shafts of the Congo. Сobalt mining provides a livelihood for many Congolese. The material is used to make lithium-ion batteries for smartphones and laptops. Mining is an exhausting and health-damaging labour, but people see no other way of earning a living. Men extract the cobalt ore from the pits while women and children wash and sort it. And if some work to earn money for food, others do it in hope of making enough money for university. This way, they will have a slight chance of leaving this life and helping their families.
