Ventifacts and Wind Polished Rocks

Magnetite Ventifacts Wind-polished Boulder Granite Ventifacts Ventifacts have always been a favorite of mine because of the deep, uninterrupted time that is required for their formation. In this video, we look at several specimens taken from around Granite Paradise and explore various aspects of their formation and characteristics. The videos listed above are others that I have done on the subject previously and that are referred to in this video. Sidenote: I had not noticed until I watched this video that the magnetite ventifact, where I am explaining how the wind sculpts out grains and crystals in a granular stone, has the fluting also following two cracks, roughly forming an “x“ on its side. Note there how much deeper the sculpting went into the rock because of the abrasion following the cracks.
