Nagorno-Karabakh leader arrested by intelligence services

The Azerbaijani intelligence services published a video on Thursday Sept 28, 2023 showing the detention of former Prime Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh Ruben Vardanyan, being accused of financing terrorism. Ruben Vardanyan, a businessman who headed the separatist government from November 2022 until February, was among thousands trying to leave Azerbajjani. The former leader of Nagorno-Karabakh was arrested as he tried to leave the enclave Nagorno-Karabakh for Armenia, officials say. Around 50,000 ethnic Armenians have now fled Nagorno-Karabakh, which was seized by Azerbaijan last week.
