Charcot arthropathy is a progressive deformity of the bones that that can lead to chronic wounds that result in amputation of a limb. Charcot is caused by a combination of nerve damage and repetitive injury to the foot or ankle. Many conditions that result in nerve damage to the lower extremities can result in Charcot. Several conditions that can result in Charcot related complications include diabetes, drug induced neuropathy and leprosy to name a few.
