Burle Marx: 3. Conversa (Violeiros de Guaratiba)

Brazilian composer Burle Marx revisits his love of Bach by composing a Fugue in choro rhythm for guitar, in this piece, “Conversa.“ He hews closely to the Bach model, incorporating familiar tropes (stretto, augmentation, etc.) and in the middle, brings it to a halt with a wildly chromatic dive from F# to A (:58-1:19). Delightfully idiomatic and lyrical in its way, this little piece is an interesting movement from an intriguing suite.
