Nadezhda Golubovskaya plays Lully, Dandrieu, Couperin, Daquin, Rameau, Scarlatti – live 1959

Even though most of this is already on YT, I’m sharing it because the quality here is higher, it includes one more piece, and not least offers the chance to introduce an incredible musician to many more people. Nadezhda Golubovskaya (1891-1975) was Sergei Prokofiev’s main competition for the Rubinstein Prize at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. The composer himself wrote in his diary, ’My strongest rival was Golubovskaya from Lyapunov’s class, a clever and subtle pianist.’ At the time of the exam Glazunov wrote this about her – ’A tremendous virtuoso and musical talent at once. It was a performance full of variety, grace and even inspiration.’ 00:00 - Lully Air Tendre 03:13 - Dandrieu Les Fifres 04:45 - Couperin Les Tricoteuses 06:22 - Couperin Les Roseaux 09:27 - Couperin Le Tic-Toc-Choc, ou Les Maillotins 11:29 - Daquin Le Coucou 13:35 - Rameau Menuet from Suite in G 16:18 - Rameau La Poule 19:01 - Rameau Tambourin 20:25 - Scarlatti Sonata
