“I am delighted to have this opportunity of expressing my appreciation of the Ray McVay Orchestra and to congratulate all concerned on this beautiful recording.
During the heyday of the Beatles, when everyone wanted to be a George Harrison, a Ringo Starr or any other member of that famous group Ray McVay had his own ideas about music and it was at that time that the public began to realise that a new band was on the way in defiance of the fashion of the day.
The versatility of the Orchestra and Singers (no singers in this issue) is extraordinary and I admire how, with equal competence, it will provide pop music, Sing-a-long style or smooth dance music – as the occasion demands.
To illustrate this point I will refer to three top contrasting engagements. First the Ballroom Dancers’ Ball held at Grosvernor House to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee; secondly the World Disco Championship and more recently Prince Charles’ birthday party at Buckingham Palace. You can’t h
