Arsonist jailed for nine years for targeting asylum hotel in Rotherham riots

An arsonist who took part in rioting over the Southport knife attacks has been jailed for nine years. Thomas Birley, a painter and decorator, has been handed the longest prison sentence so far following the rioting in early August. Birley was part of a group that smashed windows at a Holiday Inn in Manvers, in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, and added wood to a fire against the building. Read more: #riots #prison #southport
