Gunther Schuller Orchestra - ’Aunt Dinah Has Blown The Horn’, Scott Joplin’s ’Treemonisha’ • TopPop
This is a ballet performance of Penney de Jager dancing to Scott Joplins ’Aunt Dinah Has Blown The Horn’ from his opera ’Tremonisha’
Scott Joplin (November 24, 1868 - April 1, 1917, Texarkana) was an American pianist and ragtime composer. He started as a musician in his teens, and later studied music at George Smith College in Sedalia.
He has written over thirty rags, including Maple Leaf Rag and The Entertainer, and the opera Treemonisha. Besides being a composer, Joplin was a gifted pianist and cornet player. Piano scrolls have been preserved, played by Scott Joplin himself. As a result, one can still get an impression of how he played his rags today. However, too great a value should not be attached to these roles, since such roles were often edited by the publishers. This has also happened to Joplin’s roles.
Scott Joplin’s music became famous again when his music was used in the movie The Sting (with Robert Redford and Paul Newman). Later, the song Aunt Dinah Has Blown The Horn from Treemonisha became a hit in the performance of the Gunther Schuller Orchestra.
