Equine Gastrointestinal Parasites (Cornell Equine Seminar, March 2024)

“Equine Gastrointestinal Parasites,“ presented by Dr. Elisha Frye, assistant professor of practice in the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences at #CornellVet, recorded March 19, 2024 via Zoom. Dr. Elisha Frye’s talk covers the following objectives: 1. Review the lifecycle of common equine gastrointestinal parasites 2. Utilizing fecal flotation as a diagnostic tool for managing parasites in horses 3. Overview of available dewormers 4. Description of dewormer resistance and the fecal egg reduction test 5. Discussion of deworming strategies for different horse populations Frye graduated from CVM in 2010 and then practiced mixed animal medicine and surgery in the Finger Lakes region for eight years. Dr. Frye joined Veterinary Support Services at the Animal Health Diagnostic Center at CVM in 2018. She passed the board examination for the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine 2021. Her main areas of interest include infectious diseases affecting horses and farm animals, zoonotic diseases and public health. --- The Cornell Equine Hospital and Cornell Cooperative Extension are proud to host the Equine Seminar Series: monthly talks presented equine experts on important equine health and management topics.
