Elliot Goldenthal - HEAT - Rejected Score - Finale
Michael Mann is somewhat notorious for constantly fiddling with the music for his films. It’s not uncommon for him to hire multiple composers unbeknownst to each other. In the case of the classic 1995 thriller “Heat“ Mann had two composers score the end of the film. Elliot Goldenthal wrote a majestic piece that bookended the film nicely by referencing his music from the opening scene. In the end, Michael Mann threw out Goldenthal’s piece in favor of “God moving over the face of the Waters“ by the artist Moby.
Fortunately, Goldenthal’s gorgeous music would not go to waste - he later adapted his theme into the 1996 historical biopic “Michael Collins“ starring Liam Neeson.
Goldenthal’s unused Heat cue was made available through promotional means (it did not appear on the official soundtrack CD) and I have carefully mixed it back into the film with the correct timing for your viewing pleasure.
