Sunak refuses to rule out July election

Rishi Sunak is now on his feet as he delivers a speech at the Policy Exchange think tank in central London. The Prime Minister started by appearing to firm up his position on the timing of the election. Previously he had said it was his “working assumption” it would take place in the second half of this year. But this morning he said “at some point in the second half of this year, we will all go to the polls”, seemingly ruling out a contest being held in January 2025.
