The Dayan geese are Indian stripe-headed geese that breed in Central Asia. They are the highest flying geese, flying over the Himalaya mountains to hibernate in the wetlands of India. No wonder they are a symbol of strength and longevity.
This form originated in the Kunlun Shan Mountains, a place of great spiritual power north of Tibet, during the Jin Dynasty 1,800 years ago. The Taoist monks observed their movements and developed exercises based on that. They combined their knowledge of Chinese medical principles and meditation practices with the natural movements of the bird to create an extraordinarily powerful, graceful and natural system of healing and exercise.
I wish I would have met Yang Mei Jun, the late 27th generation lineage holder of the Dayan Wild Goose Qigong, before she passed at the ripe old age of 106. She was the first to break with the long tradition of secrecy and started teaching publicly at the age of 70. In the past in China, qigong (daoyin) was not passed on to just anyone. Yang De Shan, the 26th Dayan Qigong lineage holder, chose his 13-year-old granddaughter Yang Mei-Jun to pass on the teachings of Dayan Qigong. Her son, Chen Chuan Gang, who is still actively teaching at the age of 90, is now the 28th lineage holder of this qigong system.
She is known to often say, “Dao De De Dao Zheng Dao Xing“, which translates as “When virtue and morality is the path the right Dao will flourish“.
This may be taken to mean that right thoughts and actions bear right results and when the heart is pure the Dao will reveal itself. So, apart from developing the body and mind, it is very important and open compassionate and giving heart. Qigong is a way of life and practice with which we can achieve our full potential as human beings, to become not only healthy but whole.
The Dayan Wild Goose Qigong consists of two parts, each with 64 movements. Part 1 works more on the postnatal energy, Part 2 works more on the prenatal energy. The different movements activate meridians and acupuncture points so that the energy flows through the entire body smoothly benefitting blood circulation, breathing, coordination, balance, flexibility a clear mind, awareness, deep relaxation of body and mind.
