It was actively used in the Middle Ages. It is common in many regions, but can be poisonous if misused. The grass reaches a height of 50-120 cm. It has a straight stem, on the top of which are collected flower baskets no more than a centimeter in size. It has a long, branched rhizome, from which leafy shoots extend. Tansy is very decorative The fragrant, flattened flowers bloom in mid-June and fade by September. They are collected in inflorescences that resemble rowan clusters. A distinctive feature is a characteristic tart smell, reminiscent of wormwood or yarrow. It comes from all parts: stems, leaves, flowers. Inflorescences contain proteins, polysaccharides, tannins, essential oil, flavonoids, camphor, alkaloids. They contain vitamins: carotene, rutin, ascorbic acid. The plant’s ability to accumulate manganese is known. The presence of thujone makes the raw material toxic, therefore, the permissible dosages should not be exceeded. Decoctions stimulate the production of bile, normalize its biochemical composition, and improve its outflow. Tansy is a strong hepatoprotector. It activates the regeneration of liver cells, improves the functioning of the organ. The infusion relieves heat, reduces pain, increases perspiration, and helps heal wounds. Tansy extract is used by modern medicine in the preparation tanacechol, the instructions for use for which characterize it as a choleretic and effective antispasmodic agent. The medicine is prescribed for impaired motility of the biliary tract, chronic cholecystitis without the formation of stones, after removal of the gallbladder. Preparations based on tansy relieve inflammation in gout and arthritis, improve appetite and promote a more complete absorption of food.
