ROYAL TOUR. QUEEN AT COCOS ISLANDS AND CEYLON.

(22 Apr 1954) A brief halt at the Cocos Islands in the Indian Ocean followed the Australian tour. They were met by their hosts Mr and Mrs Clunies-Ross. ® A great welcome was in store for Her Majesty and the Duke at Ceylon, which began when the royal couple went ashore - to be welcomed by the Governor-General, Lord Soulbury and the Prime Minister Sir John Kotelawala. One of the first engagements in Colombo was the opening of Parliament at which ceremony, Her Majesty wore her Coronation gown.
