Australians cheer “long live the King“ outside Sydney Opera House

Crowds of thousands turned up to the Sydney Opera House for the crowning moment of the tour. The King and Queen were cheered by an estimated 8,000 members of the public, waving flags, shouting “long live the King”. The royalists, who had queued and passed through security to enter the area while other members of the public watched from the Botanic Gardens above, seemed united in condemnation of the protest, with assessments ranging from “bad manners” to “disgraceful”. “We’re embarrassed,” said one woman.
