Whitney Bjerken | 6th Level 8 Gymnastics Meet | All Around Champion

Whitney and her new teammates are at the 2016 Courtney Kupets Pink Invitational Gymnastics Meet in Savannah, Georgia. It’s also Whitney’s Birthday! The whole family packed up the car and headed towards the coast for this awesome event. Again, Whitney did great! She started on the balance beam (a scary place to start) and was solid as a rock…she scored a . From there it was on to the floor exercise. Things don’t always run smoothly…and that was the case on floor for Whitney on this day. The first few seconds of her floor music did not play! And when it did start playing, it was very quiet. Once Whitney realized her music had started, she had to speed everything up in order to catch up to her music. She did pretty well, but had a slip at the end of her final tumbling pass…she scored a 9.3. Next was the dreaded vault. Whitney is almost ready to compete the level 8 yurchenko vault, but since it was the last meet before state, there was no reason to take a chance on getting hurt again. Whitney did a great front handspring vault and scored an 8.6 with a 9.0 start value. Finally it was off to the uneven bars. Whitney had a great bars routine even though she didn’t quite nail her clear hip or her handstand. She managed to stick the landing and scored a . Whitney ended up scoring a 37.1 which was good enough to win the all around title. She also won first place on bars and beam. Whitney’s team won first place in the team competition as well. To celebrate, the whole family headed out for a dinner cruise on the Savannah River. All the kids had a great time busting out their dance moves to the tunes of the riverboat’s DJ.
