Calcium Metal Introduction
Calcium metal is mainly used as a reducing agent in steelmaking.
There are two kinds of production methods of calcium metal, one is the electrolysis of calcium metal production, its purity is generally more than 98.5%, and after further sublimation, can reach more than 99.5%. The other is the calcium metal produced by thermite (also known as the Pidgeon process), whose purity is generally about 97%. After further sublimation, the purity can be improved to 99%, but the content of some impurities such as magnesium and aluminum is higher than that of electrolyzed calcium metal.
In terms of physical properties, electrolysis calcium metal is relatively soft, relatively easy to process, the recovery rate is relatively high. However, thermite calcium metal is relatively hard, and the loss is relatively large in the process of processing finished products.
