1983 Playoffs game 4 Islanders at Rangers complete

After a wild game 3 the previous night, which the Rangers won 7-6, game 4 was the complete opposite. A low scoring playoff game more similar to some of the games from the great 1979 Islander Rangers series, or like the recent Lundquist era playoff games. Ed Mio and Rollie Melanson in net. The Rangers take an early 1-0 lead which holds up until midway into the 3rd period, when they break the game open with two more goals, despite being outplayed by the Islanders. The Isles break the shutout bid in the next to last minute, but unlike game 3, there would be no further comeback. Final score was 3-1 for the Rangers. This tied the series at 2-2, but the Cup champs would win the next two games to close out the series. The crowd was loud for much of this one, since it was a real nail-biter to the end. Somewhat better video quality than my game 3 copy, it came from a different source. All copyrights reserved by the NHL. Posted for historical and nostalgic reasons only.
