The abolition of the death penalty in Europe

The Council of Europe is today a #deathpenalty free-zone, thanks to the European Convention on Human Rights and its two Protocols 6 (1985) and 13 (2003). On the occasion of the World and European Day against the death penalty, the European Union and the Council of Europe reaffirm their opposition to the use of capital punishment in all circumstances, and call for the universal abolition of the death penalty.
