The Staten Island hero’s booming anthem “Whoopty” recently hit #19 on the Billboard Hot 100, and as far New York’s scene goes, only the late Pop Smoke can claim better. The success of CJ’s hit has a lot do with its familiar feel. The “whoopty” phrase is popular slang. And similar Bollywood samples can be heard in Memo600 and King Von’s “Exposing Me,” and Pop’s “Shake The Room.” CJ’s got some names in his corner, too.
