Klewang Fight School: Martin vs Laurens (different style klewang & karabijn fencing) HEMA sparring

The VOVBW is not the only source we study at KFS. We also study other KNIL sources and several Navy and Army sources. Some of those techniques or fencingstyles look particulair familiar when you study Asian Martial Arts like Pencak Silat and Eskrima. In this video you see Martin (black trousers) and Laurens (white striped black trousers) holding their klewang and carbine a bit differently, An earlier KNIL regulation described that now you have to parry actively with your carbine and primarily thrust with the klewang. Some stances do look like the ones of the Alifuru (native people of the Moluccan island) with their Parang and Salawaku. Further study must show whether the KNIL has taken over some things from the native people already living in the argipulago which is very likely because the KNIL and the VOC before them had warriors who were fighting with their own swords and shields and in various fighting styles. Martin and Laurens are playfully researching how you should fence according to this other regulation. You can also see why we are using heavy gloves for our left hand. More practice is needed and will certainly be done. Have fun watching this video.
