When O’Brien brought up the issue of Brazil banning X/Twitter, instead of condemning this government overreach, appeared supportive and hinted that the West should follow suit. Democracy is under threat in the West and despite what we’re told, the threat doesn’t come from the mythical “far-right“ - it comes from an establishment that is seeing its grip on public discourse loosened by social media. Free speech is vital, not only for our own well-being and prosperity (free speech and free markets are intrinsically linked), but to keep our ever-expanding, increasingly authoritarian, increasingly undemocratic governments in line.
