Auto Valet (1969)

No titles. London. Various shots of a woman using the Autovalet, a 24 hour dry-cleaning dispensing machine. She puts coins into the machine and receives a ticket and coded card, then puts the garment to be cleaned in a plastic bag hanging up to the left of the machine. The garment moves off automatically and we see it coming out the other side, where a man puts it in a bin to be taken to “one of several ultramodern cleaning factories“. Several library shots show people washing clothes beside a river, banging them on rocks and rinsing them in the water - in India or similar location. Cut back to the Autovalet as the woman returns and puts her ticket into the machine and we see the machinery at the back of the machine selecting her cleaned and pressed dress. The garment reaches the collection locker and the woman takes it out and looks at it. Extremely groovy music on the soundtrack - sort of “hey, isn’t modern technology grand?“.
