Chantecler was the name of a French play which premiered in 1910 where the main character was a rooster. It is also the name of this robust Canadian march two-step, self-published in Montreal in 1910 by an otherwise unknown composer. Stick around for the Trio, it’ll get you hopping. Researcher JohnJ1995 informs me that the play also inspired a number of other compositions from 1910, some using the English adapted title “Chanticleer“.
