This video was recorded by Theron Kolokwe in Epukiro, in the Omaheke Region of Namibia. Juǀʼhoan has around 35,000 speakers, with 4,000 being L1 users. Juǀʼhoan is part of the !Kung dialect continuum, expanding across Namibia, Angola, and Botswana. Together with the ǂʼAmkoe language, the !Kung languages form the Kxʼa language family. Typical to this language family, Juǀʼhoan is known for having a large number of clicks: 48 click consonants in total. These are accompanied by four tones and five vowel qualities. Several regional dialects are distinguished: Epukiro, Tsumkwe, Rundu, Omatako and ǂKxʼauǁʼein. Help us caption & translate this video!
