Festival Oussou. Tunisie. Sousse 2776 #sousse #kantaoui

Festival Aoussou It is a parade made up of symbolic floats, brass bands and folk troops from Tunisia and elsewhere which takes place near the beach of Boujaafar, on the eve of the start of Aoussou, a term designating the heat wave of August according to the Berber calendar. Originally it is a pagan festival (Neptunalia) celebrating the god of the sea, Neptune in Roman times, which dates back to the Phoenicians: the name of Aoussou would be a distortion of Ocean. This cult has metamorphosed over time and has lost all religious connotation. In modern times, the festival is taken over by the authorities for its political propaganda. Organized by the Aoussou Carnival Association, its first session took place in 1958 and its last session under the presidency of Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali, the 52nd, took place in 2010. After an interruption in 2011, the Ministry of Culture announced the return of the festival in 2014. Canceled in 2014 for organizational and financial reasons, the festival returns in 2015
