Millet upma is a popular South Indian breakfast dish made from millet grains. It is a healthier alternative to the traditional semolina (rava) upma, as millets are gluten-free and rich in nutrients. Here’s a basic recipe for millet upma:

Ingredients Quantity
Ragi soaked 1 cup
Bajra soaked 1 cup
Jowar soaked 1 cup
Kangni (foxtail millet) soaked 1 cup
Oil 1 tbsp
Ginger chopped 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Mustard seeds ½ tsp
Roasted chana dal 1 tbsp
Urad dal 1 tsp
Peanuts 2 tbsp
Green chilli chopped 2-3
Onion chopped 1
Curry leaves 15-20
Turmeric powder 1 tsp
French beans blanched 3-4
Carrot cut in to cubes and blanched 1
Corn blanched ¼ cup
Tomato chopped 1 large
Salt to taste
Coriander chopped 1 tbsp
Lemon juice ½
Method
Heat oil in a kadhai, add ginger, cumin, mustard, chana dal, urad dal and mix well. sauté for 1-2 mins
Add green chilli chopped, onion and sauté for 2 mins
Add curry leaves, turmeric powder, French beans, carrot, corn, tomatoes, salt and mix well. sauté for 1 mins.
Add jowar, bajra, nachni, kangani, water and mix well. Cover and cook for 10 mins
Add coriander, lemon juice and mix well
Transfer to a serving bowl.
Garnish with lemon wedge and serve hot.
