Skidding 13,000tonnes of aircraft carrier into place
On June 30 teams from across the Aircraft Carrier Alliance together with specialist contractors used hydraulic jacks and rams to gently skid a 13,000 tonne section of HMS Queen Elizabeth 90 metres along the dry dock at Babcock’s facility in Rosyth.
The next job is to integrate the two sections which, when complete, will represent approximately 60 per cent of the hull for the first ship.
