(this was once the democrats’ victory song) Annette Hanshaw (October 18, 1901 - March 13, 1985) was one of the first great female jazz singers Of the 1920’s and 1930’s. (from “Chasing Rainbows“) “Happy Days Are Here Again“ is a song copyrighted in 1929 by Milton Ager (music) and Jack Yellen (lyrics) and published by EMI Robbins Catalog, Inc./Advanced Music Corp. The song was recorded by Leo Reisman and His Orchestra, with Lou Levin, vocal (November 1929), and was used in the 1930 film Chasing Rainbows. The film was about Drunks, Bootlegging and Prohibition and the song was the finale, celebrating the imminent repeal of Prohibition. Today, the song is probably best remembered as the campaign song for Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s successful 1932 presidential campaign.
