Armored Searobin: 2019 Southeastern U.S. Deep-sea Exploration

For today’s daily dose of deep-sea weird, meet the armored searobin! These unusual fish use modified fins to move across the seafloor and branched “whiskers“ in front of their mouths to help them sense food. This one was seen at 600 meters (1,970 feet) depth during a dive to explore an area south of the Florida Keys in the Straits of Florida.
