中国式摔跤 Zhōng Guó Shì Shuāi Jiāo - Chinese Wrestling (part 3/4)
中国式摔跤 (Zhōng Guó Shì Shuāi Jiāo) or simply the Chinese Wrestling is a grappling martial art and sport, similar to Judo, Sambo or European wrestling. It does not include striking techniques (kicking & punching) and ground game. It favors stand up fighting and leg grabs.
It was a very important part of Chinese Martial Arts / Wushu since the very beginning. Some say it (wrestling) is the core part of CMA and martial arts in general.
Somewhere along the way however, it has been excluded from the Wushu curriculum, together with archery and horse riding. Wushu concentrated much more on solo routines, and the split got so big, that now it is hard to imagine there was a time when these parts were deeply connected.
Today many Shuāi Jiāo techniques (together with European wrestling and Judo) are used in Sanda competition. They had to be adjusted to be effective while wearing boxing gloves, but they proved to work quite well in a modern
