Chaap Tilak | Ilahi Sufi Qawwali Women’s Ensemble | Live at Samā School of Music

The Ilahi Sufi Qawwali ensemble offer a heartfelt live performance of the classical qawwali Chaap Tilak at the Samā School of Music in Bali. As the only complete female qawwali group, Ilahi brings a fresh yet authentic sound to the centuries-old tradition of Sufi music. Founded in 2019 by world-renowned Qawwali singer and harmonium player Tahir Qawwal of Fanna-fi-Allah, alongside his wife Alexandra Amïe, Ilahi is breaking new ground by welcoming women into this sacred musical art form. The ensemble continues their musical training under Tahir Qawwal at the Sama School of Music, bringing qawwali to global audiences. Tahir, inspired by his Pakistani ustads and his work on the award-winning qawwali documentary Music of the Mystics, was encouraged to teach women this profound musical tradition. Here the group performs the mystical kalam of Hazrat Amir Khusrau, with an abbreviated English translation: “You’ve taken away my identity with just a glance, Forcing me to drink the wine of love, Intoxicated me with just a glance. My adorned wrists held tight by you, I give my life to you, oh cloth-dyer; You’ve dyed me in your color with just a glance.“ For fans of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, traditional qawwali, and those exploring the depths of Sufi music, please visit the Sama School of Music online and watch the complete Qawwali - Music of the Mystics documentary. ▶ONLINE MUSIC SCHOOL◀ ▶QAWWALI DOCUMENTARY SERIES◀ ▶INSTAGRAM◀
