Sawmill Drive Roller | Machining & Broaching

This video is a job we did to make a Sawmill Drive Roller and it involves a lot of machining, broaching and welding in our machine shop. We start with a piece of hollow steel tube and need to rough turn the OD before boring the internal diameter. We turn down the ends to bring the tube to size before making up the centre drive plug. The centre drive plug needs to be machined and a centre hole drilled and bored to size. We are using our 150T hydraulic press for broaching and cutting 2 keyways in the plug before interference fitting it into the roller and dual shield welding in place. The roller is taken back to our customer who then uses their Mazak Integrex CNC to finish machine the outer diameter. They also use the CNC to groove and mill all the profiles into the outer diameter to finish the roller. Special thanks to Damien at Toomey Manufacturing for allowing us to get some footage of their Mazak Integrex CNC in action! In this video we are using: - TM-26120G C
