Having lived in Estonia for some time, I quickly stumbled across the country’s unique and diverse music from the 1970s and ’80s. Estonia’s location between the two largest record factories in the world at the time, which were located in Riga and St. Petersburg and run by the state-owned Soviet record company Melodiya, as well as its proximity to Finland and the associated influence of Estonian artists with Western music available through Finnish television and radio, created a unique blend of contemporary Western influences and the pre-existing Estonian music culture.
