Inkdrop Experiment

Ink (approximately neutrally buoyant) dropped into still water at height of 10.5 cm above the surface. The bifurcating tori which can be seen in the video are related to the KAM (Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser theorem): This phenomenon has also been discussed in D’Arcy Thompson’s book “On growth and form.“ (1942) on pg 395-396, which can be found here: Special thanks to Jack Morava for suggesting the experiment and to David Murphy in Mechanical Engineering at The Johns Hopkins University for making this visualization possible.
