Paul Chambers - Go... (1959).

The album was recorded for Vee-Jay Records in early February 1959 in Chicago. The musicians include Paul chambers on bass, Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Cannonball Adderly on alto saxophone, Wynton Kelly on piano and Jimmy Cobb on drums. Arrangements and playing are consistently superb. Chambers plays bowed (arco) on some of the tracks, which is a treat. And on the tracks that feature Hubbard, Adderly, or both, they add significant depth and swing to the songs. In fact, Kelly makes sure that each piece swings. I love Jimmy Cobb’s drumming and have been a fan ever since he has the drum chair on Kind of Blue. He is subtle with a beautiful touch and lays down a solid groove in conjunction with Chambers and Kelly. Frankly I had a hard time differentiating his playing from Philly Joe’s on this album. Obviously this album is essential for bassists. However, any jazz fan should enjoy it. Think of it as a solid piano trio on steroids. Adding Freddie Hubbard and Cannonball Adderly pushes it over
