Kurt Rosenwinkel is a highly acclaimed and influential jazz guitarist, composer, and bandleader. Hailed as one of the most important musicians of his generation, Kurt Rosenwinkel has spent decades pushing boundaries and developing a signature sound that has captivated audiences worldwide.
Collaborations with Eric Clapton, Gary Burton, Paul Motian, Joe Henderson, Brad Mehldau, Seamus Blake and Donald Fagen are just a few highlights from a remarkably diverse and extensive catalog of over 150 sideman recordings. Rosenwinkel has lived in Berlin since 2004 and was for a time professor of jazz guitar at the local JIB. He also runs the Heartcore Records label with great success, releasing his own as well as exciting contemporary music by other artists.
Mark Turner is one of the most influential saxophonists of our time. Turner’s sound is reminiscent of that of Warne Marsh, but he also has elements of John Coltrane in his playing. Turner has mentioned both Marsh and Coltrane as influences, and has used elements of both players’ styles in his music. Turner’s range extends into the high altissimo register. His improvised lines tend to span several octaves and contain great harmonic and rhythmic complexity. His compositions often make use of repeated patterns, odd-metered time signatures, and intervallic leaps.
Ben Street has been a fixture in the world of jazz double bass since the 1990s. He studied with Miroslav Vitous and Dave Holland before moving to New York, where he is a sought-after player in all sub-genres of jazz. He has worked with Lee Konitz, Sam Rivers, Ben Monder, Joey Calderazzo, Cindy Lauper and is a member of the Billy Hart Quartet together with Mark Turner and Ethan Iverson. He can be heard on more than 100 recordings and is the winner of the Down Beat Critics Poll 2020.
Jeff Ballard is an American jazz drummer. He has played with Ray Charles and Pat Metheny and played periodically with Chick Corea in many groups such as Origin and the Chick Corea New Trio. He also played with many New York–based jazz musicians such as Reid Anderson, Brad Mehldau, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Miguel Zenon, Eli Degibri and with the Joshua Redman Elastic Band.
