Rapid Weld Process Visualized Using CAVILUX lasers and High-Speed Camera
A gorgeous Friday to our amazing followers. It’s time for another #weldporn today with #CAVILUX vision provided again by our esteemed Polish distributor ECTS systems @
The footage was recorded at Czestochowa University of Technology welding lab using a CAVILUX smart and Phantom VEO 710S high-speed camera at 3,900 fps and 1 us pulse using a @CloosPolska robotic arc welding system. The Rapid Weld Process developed by Cloos uses a specialized short arc technique. This isn’t about short-circuiting; it’s a refined approach to reducing arc length in standard spray modes for metal deposition resulting in a consistent, controlled flow of liquid metal from the solid/liquid interface, aligned perfectly with the electrode.
A column of liquid metal flows from the solid/liquid interface and in line with the electrode. High dynamics of power source may be useful to reduce arc interruptions which generate a spatter. In case the rotation ascribed to softening of the electrode wire by Joule-Lenz heating: where the electric current passing through the welding wire generates heat due to the wire’s resistance. This heating softens the wire, requiring adjustments in the welding process for optimal heat distribution and penetration.
The main advantage of Rapid Weld is high base material penetration by effects of keyhole in high current arc process. This effect makes the fillet welds with deep penetration further lowers the center of gravity of the weld deposit and reduces the moment arm, thereby reducing the shrinkage moment.
