It’s true you’re now allowed to talk during a tennis point, but should that rule apply when a player speaks before their OWN shot, meaning they’re only hindering themself? This chair umpire certainly thought so, and penalized Daniil Medvedev for apologizing to Alexander Bublik mid-point in Toronto. Is this one of the worst calls ever, or was the umpire correct to follow the rules to the letter?
