Historian Margaret MacMillan and Institute Director John Shaw discussed how the lessons of history can help the world recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and her new book, “War: How Conflict Shaped Us“ (2020).
MacMillan is a professor of history at the University of Toronto, a professor emerita of history at the University of Oxford, and a visiting distinguished historian at the Council on Foreign Relations. She is the author of several highly respected books including, “Paris 1919: Six Months That Changed the World“ (2001), “Dangerous Games: The Uses and Abuses of History“ (2009), and “The War That Ended Peace: The Road to 1914“ (2013).
