RR8201 - Israel: Golan and Sinai
WTN
Various Locations - 01 January 1982 and file
On December 14th 1981, Israel shocked friends and enemies alike by extending Israeli law over the Golan Heights, the area captured from Syria in the 1967 war. This virtual annexation has increased tension in the area and made the prospect of peace even more distant than before. To the South, in Sinai, Israel has already handed back some captured territory to Egypt and plans to complete the handover in April. But the Israeli settlers are unhappy and some don’t want to move at all.
