Nero Wolfe & Rex Stout (1886-1975): The first Nero Wolfe book Fer-de-Lance, was written by Rex Stout and published in 1934. Nero is a man in his 50s who would rather lounge in his New York Brownstone solving mysteries rather than galivant around town searching for clues. His hired assistant Archie Goodwin does the legwork and is the novel’s narrator. Stout wrote 34 Nero Wolf novels and 41 shorter stories to great acclaim. His stories have been turned into films, radio, and television shows. In fact, William Conrad who narrates Indian Jones and the Last Crusade here on GBOT, portrayed the great detective in a 1981 TV series. Robert Goldsborough (1937- ) After Rex Stout’s widow died in 1984, the Stout estate contracted Robert Goldsborough, a journalist and ad man, to continue the successful Nero Wolfe Series. Mr. Goldsborough wrote an additional 16 Nero Wolfe books, including Silver Spire which was published in 1992. Most fans of the original Stout novels have praised the Goldsborough versions. His last book was released in 2021. Nero Wolfe: Silver Spire - Death comes to an assistant of a con artist televangelist Barnabas Bay, reverend of the Silver Spire tabernacle.
