Sorority Girl Gets Arrested for DUI in Pullman, WA

Shortly past midnight on February 4, 2023, Deputy Christopher Olin of the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office observed a 2003 Honda CR-V turn into the wrong lane when turning from Valley Road to NE Stadium Way in Pullman, Washington. When he proceeded to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle turned into the driveway at 715 NE Stadium Way. The first test involved the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN), where the Deputy observed the lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees. During the Walk and Turn test, Mia counted the first step on the wrong foot and was unable to maintain her balance or walk a straight line. For the final One Leg Stand test, Mia started too soon and counted contrary to the Deputy’s instructions. Following the voluntary field sobriety tests, Mia was offered the opportunity to voluntarily take a PBT test. The PBT reading was , which is over the legal limit of . Based on her admission to consuming alcohol, her inability to perform the field sobriety tests, and the PBT result, Deputy Olin placed Mia under arrest for driving under the influence. Mia was subsequently transported to the WSU Police Department for further processing. After Mia waived her constitutional rights and answered the Deputy’s questions, she agreed to submit to a breathalyzer test. Her Alcotest results indicated a BAC of %, which was over the legal limit of %. Following the results of her breathalyzer test, Mia was transported to the Whitman County Jail in Colfax, Washington with a bail amount of $500. She was cited under RCW for Driving under the Influence (DUI). On March 16, 2023, Mia ultimately pled guilty to Negligent Driving in The First Degree () and she was sentenced to serve 12 months of probation and 1 day in jail.
