Rescued Bears Begin To Trust Carers After 20 Years On Bile Farm 😊 | Animals Asia

Two weeks after arriving at our new sanctuary in Bach Ma, Vietnam, we’re over the moon to tell you that our first two residents are doing so well! These two brave bears have come so far in such a short space of time. Armstrong is quite confident and responds so well to his carers, and although Buzz is slightly more cautious, she’s also doing really well. Thank you to everyone who has been asking how they are, we hope you enjoy the update and seeing the beautiful duo doing so well! ❓ Why are Buzz and Armstrong in cages ❓ Read below! 👇 Love bears? We are the Vietnam government’s chosen partner for ending bear bile farming in Vietnam and are rescuing every last bear on bile farms in the country: . #bear #rescuedanimal #animalasia ❓ Why are Buzz and Armstrong in cages ❓ When bears arrive at Animals Asia’s sanctuaries, they spend around 30 days in a quarantine cage so they can get used to their new surroundings, and so we can monitor them closely. It also protects them and our resident bears against cross-contamination. The bears we rescue have been in tiny, barren and dark cages on bile farms for years, often decades, and often since they were cubs. It’s all they have ever known. The cages can’t be too different to what the bears have been used to, as subjecting them to too many changes in too short a time can be detrimental to their mental and physical health, so the transition has to be done very slowly to ensure they are kept comfortable. These bears often do not have the physical strength or the spatial awareness when they first arrive to deal with larger spaces straight away. The bear carers also need to be able to feed, medicate and shower the bears which, if they were in a larger space, would be incredibly difficult. This time also allows the bears to grow to trust and recognise their carers, and to learn that humans can be kind. We shower the bears with love, great food, toys and enrichment while they’re in quarantine, and we are able to attend to them if they need us. Once quarantine is over and the bears are ready, they move to their own den, meet other bears and then head out into the lush, grassy enclosures.
