Vintage footage from CAAS 1998! We’re playing the “Black and White Rag“. From left to right: Gary Potter, Tommy Emmanuel, Richard Smith, Bob Saxton. My brothers Rob Smith on rhythm guitar on the far left and Sam Smith on bass on the far right. We were performing there as the Richard Smith Guitar Trio that year. This is the heart of CAAS: a short snippet from the Picker’s Club Room, run by the regional fingerstyle guitar clubs associated with the convention. It’s all about hanging with fans and friends and fellow guitar players, jamming into the wee hours and celebrating our common hero Chet Atkins as well as Jerry Reed and Merle Travis and all the great thumbpickers that made guitar playing what it is today.
