KANJANUR - The Lord Shukra’s Temple (The Planet Venus) Kanjanoor is located 18 kilometres from Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu India. This temple was built by the Medieval Cholas during the middle of the 9th century C.E. The temple has a 5-tier tower surrounded by two precincts. This Temple is one of the nine Navagraha sthalas. This temple is dedicated to Lord Sukra the planet Venus. The main idol in the temple is Lord Agniswarar (Shiva). In this temple Lord Sukra is believed to be located within the stomach of the idol of Shiva. Another important feature is that the oil Abishekam performed to the Siva linga is fully absorbed by the idol. Devotees worship Lord Sukra by offering white cloth, white Lotus and diamond for their betterment in life. It is believed the unemployed will get jobs if they offer white clothes to Lord Sukra.
