There’s no doubt that Barbie and the 80s go hand-in-hand! In 1985, Mattel released Barbie and the Rockers, an all-girl rock band complete with electric guitars, drums and coloured hair. Then in 1987, Barbie introduced Ken on the drums. At the time, it was a brand new and exciting concept for kids- using music as a way to express themselves! Some editions came with a cassette tape to go along with the line, featuring electronic, pop and rock music. Barbie and the Rockers showed how even in the 80s, girls could do anything they put their minds to! This video is in honour of this classic 80s icon. It also pays respect to women who are in the music industry, past and present, who have inspired generations of people!
